"A child in school is one less on the streets"
Giloktok, Barili Study Center

Gilogotk is on Cebu Island, few hours from Cebu City, not far from the sea shore.
Gelogtok is a very small village, where most of the fathers are fishermen or farmers. Their income are very low and not all the houses are connected to the electric network. Therefore, it was very difficult for the children to study at home during evening time. Moreover, the houses are made of bamboo and the roof is in leaves. During heavy rains, drops come from the ceiling… In these conditions, the children were not able to focus on their school homework.
Our local coordinator decided, with the help of EdM, to erect a study room to provide a nice shelter for the children who want a nice and quiet place to study and review. A French donor decided to finance the project.

Now all the students from this area can study in good condition and give them a better chance to be successful in their future. Moreover, the room is also use in day time to provide livelihood training to the parents. There are few sewing machines now and they produce backpack.
Finally, our local leader decide also to implement a new project: exploit the pork dung to use it as fertilizer and also provide cooking gas to few houses around the project.

The community is very proud now about these new facilities and take part of all activities.

A boarding House For the Lumad Community

Our local Leader in Butuan area, contact us about a project to support students who are far from their home. The students are originaly from Tagpalico and Bagodannon mountains near Sibigat where there is an High School. These student belong to the ethnic group of Manobos, a Lumads mnority. Their parents are exclusively farmers only.

To go to school, the students have to walk for more than 4 hours, same to go back home. Many lost their motivation and leave school after elementary. However, few students still continue to travel every day.

Enfants du Mekong decided to build a house to support them. To keep as much as possible their practice, the building will use traditional material.
